While I have never read anything by Oscar Wilde, I do know who he is. This quote of his really just makes me happy. To paraphrase, it's always what we do in our free time, when we are unconfined by schedules and to-do lists, that determines who we are. I spend most of my free time reading, writing, and editing (or watching a good TV show or on Pinterest). How about you?

Ahhhh yesh. *nods* good quote. What we do with the time we are given - free time we find, and extra time we /make/ - shows where people's passions really are, and who they want to be.
ReplyDeleteAnd yeah, my free time is basically used the same as yours. XP
Great quote! And congrats on your twentieth post!
Yes, especially the time we make. That takes extra effort ;) Thanks! I hadn't even noticed it was my 20th :P Maybe I'll do something special for my 25th?
DeleteAnother really good quote, Abi. And thank you SO much for following my blog!!
ReplyDeleteAnd my free time is used almost exactly like yours! :D
Thank YOU for following mine! Why does it not surprise me that we all spend our time similarly? ;)
DeleteSo good! And so true! Most of my free time is spent reading, writing, or blogging.
ReplyDeleteYep, yep! I guess I didn't include blogging, but it kinda falls under writing, right? Because that definitely eats my time!
DeleteAnother great quote! :D Quotes are a major reason I love Pinterest so much. ;)
ReplyDeleteThanks! And yes. That's where I found all of these :)
DeleteWow, I've never read this quote before, but I love it. My free time is very similar—reading, writing, social media. Thank you for introducing me to a new favorite quote! =D
ReplyDeleteYeah, I feel like I spend enough time on social media just between Pinterest and Google+. I can't imagine if I had more. But I'm looking into getting Twitter. I'm glad you like it so much! It's definitely become a favorite of mine.
DeleteOoo, love this quote! Definitely one I'll remember :). In my free time I tend to be writing, reading, blogging, editing (because that's TOTALLY different than writing, right?), or lazing around on my computer :D. Oh! and playing piano + violin.
ReplyDeleteYay! I love the parallelism in what he's saying. It makes it almost poetic :) Yes, editing is DEFINITELY different! Hey, I play piano, too! It takes up a lot of my time just because it's my de-stresser :)
DeleteAh good quote! :D Typically I jump on the trampoline or blog or write or read or play a game with the sibs or something like that. XD
ReplyDeleteLook at you, being all good at family time ;P Reading definitely include me reading /to/ people. After 5 siblings ho-hum about reading, I have trained the youngest well ^.^
DeleteGreat quote :)
ReplyDeleteI usually read, write, play board games, or spend my time obsessively reading blogs and on Pinterest. (It's honestly probably not good for me XD)
I also try to go on a walk (short, long, doesn't matter) every day.
Thank you! I don't spend as much time reading blogs as I would like (especially lately), but I've got to get better about it to learn about my readers! Good for you, taking walks. I'm doing a #Walkfor30 challenge that will make me do one every day with a picture. It will be good for me, because I really don't go outside enough. Especially not in warm and hectic May :P
DeleteI lie, it's the #Walk30Days, but you know what I meant ;)
DeleteYeah, I'm doing it, too! Which I know you know, because you commented on my G+ post ;)
DeleteOH, DANG IT. I JUST REALIZED I FORGOT TO GO ON A WALK TODAY XD
I kind of forgot yesterday, but I did go outside at one point, so . . . ? ;)
DeleteOh I really like this quote! (And I love Oscar Wilde.)
ReplyDeleteIn my free time, I read, blog, write, daydream, or mess around on Twitter. One of these is probably less productive than the others :-P
Thanks, Sophia! What have you read of his that you've liked? I've only ever seen a movie rendition of "The Importance of Being Earnest."
DeleteI'm considering getting a Twitter account with my parents' permission. It just seems to be a good writing hub and I am already used to using hashtags. It would be another good way to connect. But I really don't need any more social media time in my life . . . Oh, yes. Daydreaming happens a lot, too. I will go in my room for a schoolbook and end up on my bed thinking about a character I need to develop. It's insane.
I've seen a few different productions of Earnest, as well as the movie version, and now that I think about it, that's the extent of my Wilde experience... though I've seen a lot of his excellent quotes pop up often. My homeschool theater group has done An Ideal Husband (along with Earnest), but I never saw it, and I really want to read Picture of Dorian Grey. :-)
DeleteTrue, I know a handful of his quotes as well. We'll have to expand our Wilde library together!
